February 2014 (Issue 6)

Fandom Monthly Magazine presents...
February 2014

Vampire Academy is finally in theaters! Prior to the movie’s release, the movie placed 2nd in the annual MTV Movie Brawl. The movie brawl is to predict the year’s most highly anticipated movies. Vampire Academy was competing for the title with movies like Divergent, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, Veronica Mars, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, and The Maze Runner.

According to imdb.com, the movie produced $4,101,000 in revenue on  the opening weekend of February 9, 2014 in the US. Vampire Academy’s success opening weekend success is nothing compared to the revenue of other book to movie adaptations like The Hobbit. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug made 255.3 million dollar revenue in the first 4 weeks! Vampire Academy broke even with The Mortal Instruments (a popular book series that was taken to the big screen) with its revenue taking 3.9 million in the first two days.  Internationally, the books by Richelle Mead that the movie was based on are a huge success. But, some countries cancelled movie showings for whatever reasons—including Brazil and Denmark. The theatrical trailer release was also cancelled prior to the movies release in those countries as well.

About the Vampire Academy movie: Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, half human/vampire, guardians of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discretely within our world. Her legacy is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi. This is her story.—imdb.com
If the first movie in the series is successful, there will be a sequel and maybe even more movies to come. Frosbite, the sequel to the book Vampire Academy, is already being discussed production wise. Readers and fans of the movie are already getting excited for the new production. Mark Waters says that he is hoping that the movie will do well enough so that way he can direct another Vampire Academy movie. Fans are also hoping for the prequel to the Vampire Academy book series Bloodlines to go the big screen as well.
Many have said that the way the movie was edited together was rushed because of how much that needed to be cramped and edited into the book because of all the character foundation in the first book.

This month was pact with news for the fans of the Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare.

City of Heavenly Fire news:
City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) spoilers have brought lots of questions into minds of fans. Especially when Cassandra said this
“ I knew as soon as I created him, that he would die. I was very sad but I thought while I was writing that HE would die.”

Who do you think it is?

Cassandra Clare has released the title for the fourth series she is writing. It goes by the name of The Last Hours via tumblr.
The three books in the trilogy are Chain of Thorns, Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron. It will take place in 1903 London between the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It will focus on the children of the characters for the previous trilogy The Infernal Devices.
Clare has so many books out to deal with Shadow hunters, beginning with The Mortal Instruments, the sixth and final book, City of Heavenly Fire will be released May 27.
The Infernal Devices then followed after that but is set in the time before The Mortal Instruments. Sadly for us there are no more books in The Infernal Devices series.
We cant forget about Magnus Bane (the loved high warlock of Brookly in The Mortal Instruments) and his books coming out in real form in November or December.
The next on Cassandras plate is the sequel series to The Mortal Instruments, titled The Dark Artifices which is the story of “The Blackthorns, Herondales and Carstairs.” (familes in the Shadowhunter world) Clareis still figuring out the exact date for the first The Dark Artifices book, Lady Midnight but it is said to be published in 2015.
Sadly for the fans, the first Last Hours book isn’t due to be published until 2017.

A super-quickie timeline of all the Shadowhunter's Chronicles books: (missing some bits)
The Runaway Queen 1791
What Really Happened in Peru 1791
Vampires, Scones, and Edmund Herondale 1857
Clockwork Angel 1878
Clockwork Prince 1878
Clockwork Princess 1878
The Midnight Heir — 1903
The Last Hours — 1903-1904 (We know the titles are Chain of Thorns, Chain of Gold, and Chain of Iron, but not which is book 1, 2 or 3 ;)
The Rise of the Hotel Dumort 1929
Saving Raphael Santiago 1953
The Fall of the Hotel Dumort 1977
The Last Stand of the New York Institute 1989
City of Bones August 2007
City of Heavenly Fire December 2007-on into 2008
The Dark Artifices: 2012

Is The Last Hours the last of the shadow hunter books?
Not quite Clare has said she fully intends to publish a fifth series after that.
Do you think Cassandra is doing to much with the Shadow hunters? Is it time we hang up our steles and say goodbye?
Tell us in the comments!

The Dark Artifices Snippet:
Julian’s skin was cold, as if he’d been leaning out the window into the night air. She turned his hand and drew with her finger on his bare forearm. It was something they’d done since they were small children and didn’t want to get caught talking during lessons. Over the years they’d gotten so good at it that they could map out detailed messages on each other’s hands, arms, even their shoulders through their T-shirts.
D-I-D Y-O-U E-A-T? she spelled out.
Julian shook his head, still staring at Livvy and Ty. His curls were sticking up in tufts as if he’d been raking his hands through his hair. She felt his fingers, light on her upper arm. N-O-T H-U-N-G-R-Y.
