About Vampire Academy (Book #1):
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever

Oh dear. This series… I really went on an emotional roller coaster the entire reading experience. Vampire Academy is sassy, juicy, depressing and extremely comedic. The moment I started reading, I was hooked. I remember every time I read the book around people everyone would stare at me for laughing so hysterically. The series is that addictive. I would totally recommend these reads. Just make sure you have a lot of time on your hands. It drives you insane when you don’t have time to read the next chapter. Trust me.
I also enjoyed Richelle Mead’s writing style. I started obsessing over the series and couldn’t stop reading. You just have to keep on reading until you finish the book. Then pick up the next book. Repeat.
This series is nothing like Twilight for sure. There are vampires, good and evil. Twilight has this dark essence to it that can make it a little bland of a read that includes little comedy. If you really think about it, take the love triangle away from Twilight and all you have left is a story about a girl who moves to a town that rains a lot. Also, you really don’t connect with the characters in Twilight.  They’re all so different from the typical teen or young adult. Vampire Academy characters are teens in a special kind of school. It’s that simple. Every teen can easily relate to Rose, Lissa, Christian, Mason, Eddie, and even Dimitri. Second, these vampires don’t sparkle. Normal people don’t do that.
I was happily satisfied with the way the series ended. But a girl always wants more. I will definitely be picking up the spin off series Bloodlines. I hope I can survive. I’ll do a series review once I’m done!
